Many adolescents and young adults are developing serious problems in their life due to substance abuse. According to the Office of Adolescent Health, among adolescents alcohol is the substance most commonly abused followed by marijuana and then tobacco. Among adolescents, many are also using synthetic marijuana, misusing prescription medications and abusing other illicit mind altering drugs and are sadly in serious need of help.
Substance abuse is also a problem among young adults today and has been for quite some time. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (2010) the misuse of prescription medications was the highest among 18 to 25 year old young adults. Excessive use of alcohol is also a problem among young adults, binge drinking being more common among 18 to 34 year olds.
